PSYCHOLOGIST/CHEF RELEASES SPECIAL DIET COOKBOOK
Dr. Theresa Nicassio’s highly original cookbook “YUM” fills the gap for those with food allergies & sensitivities creating a comprehensive resource, a true masterpiece.
Vancouver – Cookbooks for people with celiac disease, lactose intolerance, food allergies, diabetes, and other food sensitivities are common these days. What isn’t so common is finding a cookbook that connects with its reader on a multitude of levels.
…a masterpiece, Dr. Sandra Cabot
YUM: plant-based recipes for a gluten-free diet by Dr. Theresa Nicassio, a registered psychologist (#1541), gourmet raw food chef, and integrative healer has written a cookbook that goes above and beyond a regular cookbook. Artfully integrating her expertise as a psychologist, the author connects with her readers about the loss of traditional foods with her own life story that brought her to write this cookbook. Theresa shares her philosophy of “responsible hedonism”— a form of mindful living where all things can be enjoyed, and joyfully releases us from the “tyranny of shoulds” that dominates our food culture.
…a much needed dimension to the discussion of special diets, Dr. Alessio Fasano
The YUM cookbook is an unparalleled resource guide for enjoying a guilt-free and delicious life, even if you live with dietary restrictions. Over 180 recipes have been created so that even a twelve-year-old can make them. The allergy chart in the back, indicating which recipes are also free of other commonly problematic foods, such as corn, soy, nuts, seeds, nightshades, citrus, grain, caffeine, etc. (in addition to gluten, sugar and animal products that characterizes all of the recipes in the volume) sets this book into a class of its own. In addition, the author has developed a suite of recipes that includes many family favourites – the comfort foods that are so difficult to live without like mac-and-cheese, pizza (but with a polenta crust), wraps that travel well in lunches, a mouth-watering ice cream sandwich recipe, many wonderful desserts and cookies, and numerous delicious drinks, increasing the likelihood that readers will more likely be able to make and sustain dietary changes to support their health.
[The] recipes are full of her generosity and spirit as well as deliciousness, Sharon Hanna
Readers will find themselves curled up on the couch with this cookbook. There are sumptuous full-colour images throughout of food, plants and bees. Scattered among the recipes are cooking tips, nutritional notes, and delightful bee bites that add a lovely touch to the sustainability angle that is subtlety conveyed throughout the book. It is a cookbook to be experienced from cover to cover.
YUM: plant-based recipes for a gluten-free diet is the inaugural book published by D&D Publishing and Distribution and will be available as of September 15th. Theresa will be embarking on a West Coast book tour that kicks off in Vancouver on September 19th with a large community event.
